For you:
Go see Martin John Henry at one of these events, I’ve only one song off his new album but it was a peach.
8th of October @ Stereo in Glasgow with some excellent support from The Seventeenth Century and Adam Stafford. Tickets are 4 pound for entry or 6 pound for entry plus 2 free downloads from each of the bands.
(sidenote: funny story about Adam Stafford, I’d just finished listening to his album ‘Build a Harbour Immediately’ and was thinking how much I enjoyed it when I had to go down to Fenwick to meet my girlfriend and go to her cousin’s wedding. Turned out it was also Adam Stafford’s wedding, I didn’t know how to approach the subject of, ‘we’ve never met before and I didn’t even know who was getting married at this wedding but I was just listening to your album and really enjoyed it’, without sounding like an absolute psychopath and so kept to myself and got drunk. This could have been a post in itself, stretched it out into another ridiculous narrative like the Phantom Band one, but I restrained myself, slightly.)
or a free instore at Avalanche Record in Edinburgh on the 8th as well I think, let me check. Nope, I was wrong as usual, it’s the 7th at 4pm.
For those who don’t know/remember Martin John Henry was in De Rosa, a band who I’m reliably assured were excellent but who I never got into before they split and all of I sudden I lost the urge to listen to cause I know I would love them and just lament, woe, lament that I hadn’t got round to it sooner.
I’ll be missing both of these due to three 13 hour shifts at work, have pity on me, I’m a former English student, we don’t know the meaning of real work.
For me:
Albums which I wants:
Martin John Henry – The Other Half of Everything (streaming in full here.)
The Moth and the Mirror – Honestly, This World (doesn’t actually come out to the 10th but the two songs I’ve heard have been excellent)
John Knox Sex Club – Raise Ravens (not actually listened to this yet, but I have heard a LOT of good press, streaming here.)
I’m sure there was another four or five albums I wanted but perhaps I have conveniently forgotten them to stop myself bankrupting…myself. I did do a English degree, honest.
Also,
The Moth and the Mirror at Stereo on Wed 12th of October for their album launch. This I will be attending, I think. Tickets ain’t on sale yet though.
edit: For all of us I’m embedding The Other Half of Everything
